Severe acute biliary pancreatitis requiring Intensive Care Unit admission: Evaluation of severity score for the prediction of morbidity and mortality

چکیده
Severity of pancreatitis is an important consideration for ED clinicians making admission judgments. The early identification of severe AP is important for the management and for improving outcomes. Validated scoring systems can be a helpful tool in this process. A multitude of predictive models has been developed to predict the severity of AP based on clinical, laboratory, and radiologic risk factors, various severity grading systems, and serum markers. This study aimed to evaluate the comparative usefulness of the Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation‐II (APACHE‐II),[1] computed tomography imaging scoring systems (CTSI) score,[1] Bedside Index of Severity in Acute Pancreatitis (BISAP) score,[1,2] Ranson score,[3] and IMIRIE score[3] to predict the prediction the morbidity and mortality in acute severe biliary pancreatitis requiring Intensive Care Unit admission.

Improved Outcome of Severe Acute Pancreatitis in the Intensive Care Unit
Background. Severe acute pancreatitis (SAP) is associated with serious morbidity and mortality. Our objective was to describe the case mix, management, and outcome of patients with SAP receiving modern critical care in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Methods. Retrospective analysis of patients with SAP admitted to the ICU in a single tertiary care centre in the UK between January 2005 and Decemb...

متن کاملCase mix, outcome, and activity for admissions to UK critical care units with severe acute pancreatitis: a secondary analysis of the ICNARC Case Mix Programme Database
INTRODUCTION Severe acute pancreatitis (SAP) requiring admission to a critical care unit is associated with high mortality and long lengths of stay. We describe the case mix, outcome, and activity of admissions with SAP who were identified from a high-quality clinical database. METHODS We conducted a secondary analysis of the ICNARC (Intensive Care National Audit & Research Centre) Case Mix P...

Background. Multifactorial scorings, radiological scores, and biochemical markers may help in early prediction of severity, pancreatic necrosis, and mortality in patients with acute pancreatitis (AP). Methods. BISAP, APACHE-II, MOSS, and SIRS scores were calculated using data within 24 hrs of admission, whereas Ranson and Glasgow scores after 48 hrs of admission; CTSI was calculated on day 4 wh...

Background: Up to now there is no study evaluating correlation between serum magnesium and morbidity or mortality in patients admitted in intensive care unit. The aim of this study is to determine the prevalence of hypomagnesemia in critically ill patients and to evaluate its association with organ dysfunction, hospitalization period and mortality. Methods: We conducted a retrospective trial ...
